Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State on Monday flagged-off palliative grading of one-fold 1.1km Agura-Gberigbe Road in Ikorodu.
The Chairman of the local government, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, said at the flag off ceremony that the palliative was necessary to ensure easy movement of people and motorists in the community during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“One of the priorities of this administration is construction and rehabilitation of roads; that is what we are doing today.
“The Agura-Gberigbe Road is a very important road that links many towns, communities and villages; so it must be in good shape.
“We will ensure the work is sped up so that residents will enjoy the season,” he said.
Adesina said that the rehabilitation of Agura-Gberigbe was in fulfilment of a promise he made during his election campaign.
Mr. Dimeji Oshikoya, the Councillor representing Agura-Gberigbe in the council, expressed satisfaction at the gesture.
He said that the work would make movement easy and lead to economic advancement of the community.
Oshikoya said that the road would be handed over to the community development committee after completion, for proper maintenance.
He urged the residents to desist from throwing refuse into drains to avoid blockage that could affect the road negatively.
“We commend the chairman for putting palliatives for us on the road, this will alleviate the suffering of residents during yuletide,” he said.
In a related development, the council chairman inaugurated drains constructed by the council on Poromosan Estate in Idi-Iroko.
The chairman was sworn in on July 26, alongside 56 other elected local government chairmen in Lagos state. (NAN).
