Investigation: AIG calls for crucial utilisation of forensic criminal data

Lagos, Jan. 10, 2024 (NAN) The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon Lagos, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, has called for crucial utilisation of forensic criminal data to carry out investigations.

Owohunwa made the call on Wednesday, while briefing officers and men of FCID on the current initiatives of the I-G to reinstate the department as the leading investigative agency in accordance with the Rule of Law and professional excellence.

He emphasised the imperative use of intelligence-led tools to bolster investigations.

The spokesperson for the department, ASP Aminat Mayegun, made this known in a statement.

The AIG cautioned detectives against resorting to custodial violence, calling on them to respect citizens’ rights,maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and professional misconduct.

 

Owohunwa pointed out that the success of FCID Alagbon hinged greatly on the collaborative efforts of the sectional heads and detectives channeling their expertise and vast knowledge towards upholding professionalism, integrity, and efficiency in investigative processes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that AIG Owohunwa, a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, was promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police by the Police Service Commission on Oct. 11,2023 and was redeployed to FCID Alagbon Lagos. (NAN)
