Jigawa state sets up committee to address indiscriminate land allocation

Dutse, July 29, 2025 (NAN) The Jigawa Executive Council has established a committee to review Land, Housing, and Urban Development policies, with a specific focus on addressing the issue of indiscriminate land allocation.

The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, made this known while briefing newsmen after the weekly executive council meeting on Tuesday.

He said that in pursuit of good governance, the Jigawa Government recognises the urgent need to address the challenges of indiscriminate land allocation.

The committee, he said, is part of the state government’s efforts to improve land management and ensure more equitable distribution of land resources.

The committee, according to the commissioner, is made up of an active and retired seasoned Land Administrators, traditional Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, local governments, and other relevant MDAs.

The state Commissioner of Land, he said, will serve as Chairman and Commissioner of Environment, as a Co-Chairman, with former state Surveyor General Abdullahi Hassan as a member.

Other committee members are Dr Zulkifili Muhammed, a Geographical Information System expert, Dr Sadiq Abubakar, former Director of  Land/Deeds, Esq. Usman Adamu, Dr Musbahu Lawan, Mr Shehu Chamo, and Mr Garba Isah.

The council, Musa said, has also given the committee six weeks within which to present its report and recommendations, that will bring a lasting solution to the indiscriminate land allocation.

The committee is also mandated to provide a robust Land Policy that would promote accountability, equity, and sustainable land use in Jigawa state.(NAN)
