President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Dr. Usman Aminu as the new Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Bida, Niger.
News of the appointment was contained in a letter signed by the Minister of Health, Prof. Oyebuchi Chukwu, and made available to newsmen in Bida on Tuesday.
According to the letter, the appointment takes effect from Aug. 12 for an initial term of four years.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the appointment followed the expiration of the eight-year term of the former Medical Director, Dr. Alaba Okuku.
Until his appointment, the new MD was a senior lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Zaria, and the Director of the University Health Services, ABU, Zaria.
The president, while congratulating the new MD, enjoined him to work hard to ensure that the hospital was positioned to provide quality health care services to the people.
The 49 year-old Aminu, an indigene of Bida, Bida Local Government Area of Niger, is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, with a MDBS degree in 1989.
Aminu told NAN in Bida that he would do everything humanly possible to lift the standard of health care delivery services in the centre.
He said he would do this by using his wealth of experience and the assistance of the centre’s staff.
