KADUNA, Jan. 24, 2026 (NAN) Concerned citizens of Kaduna Central Senatorial District have expressed disappointment over what they described as inadequate representation by their elected Senator, Lawal Usman.
The group made their position known at a press briefing in Kaduna on Saturday where they accused the senator of poor engagement with the constituents, failure to address critical security and development challenges in the district.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr Tesleem Abdulrasheed, Convener of Kaduna Concerned Citizens, said the senator had remained largely disconnected from the people since assuming office.
Abdulrasheed alleged that Usman’s public communication, particularly on social media, focused more on personal leisure activities than on issues of insecurity and underdevelopment affecting Kaduna Central.
He cited a recent violent incident in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area, which, according to him, generated widespread public concern but received little or no public response from the senator.
The group also faulted the senator for what it described as his failure to support security efforts, visit affected communities, or provide relief materials to victims of insecurity, especially during periods of heightened violence in areas such as Birnin Gwari and Giwa.
According to the group, such actions undermine the principles of democratic representation and weaken public confidence in elected leadership.
The concerned citizens called on Usman to urgently address the people of Kaduna Central, engage relevant security agencies, visit communities affected by insecurity, and institute regular town hall meetings to reconnect with his constituents.
They warned that leaders who distance themselves from the people would continue to face peaceful but firm demands for accountability.
The press briefing, the group said, was aimed at drawing public attention to what they perceived as a lack of effective representation and to urge improved responsiveness from the senator.
They expressed hope that their concerns would be addressed and noted that the electorate would ultimately assess political leaders based on their performance when the time comes.
All efforts by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to get the reaction of Usman or his aides had proved abortive. (NAN)
