Epe (Lagos State), March 24, 2026 (NAN) The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Ms Surah Animashaun, on Tuesday, led an inspection tour to major markets within the council area.

Animashaun, during the inspection, urged traders to prioritise cleanliness and comply with the Lagos State Government directive on monthly sanitation.

She, however, expressed concern over poor sanitation in some of the markets within the area.

“There is a need for collective responsibility in maintaining a healthy trading environment.

“Cleanliness is essential for public health, business growth and overall community development.

“You, market leaders, must always enforce regular sanitation and ensure all traders complied with sanitation regulations,” she said.

She stressed that indiscriminate dumping of refuse and poor waste management practices would no longer be tolerated.

She directed the relevant environmental officers to intensify monitoring and sensitization efforts across markets.

Animashaun noted that offenders would be sanctioned in line with the existing laws of the state.

She stressed that the administration would  remain committed to sustaining a cleaner and safer environment through continuous engagement with stakeholders.

She appealed to residents and traders to support government initiatives by adopting proper waste disposal habits and participating actively in sanitation programmes.

“We are resolved to improve sanitary conditions across markets in Epe as a clean environment would enhance economic activities and promote the well-being of residents,” she said.(NAN)
