The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Mr Akinpelu Johnson has  reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to farmers, stressing that  agriculture remained  the backbone of community survival and food security in Nigeria.

Johnson made the pledge on Friday, while addressing the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and stakeholders in agriculture at the council secretariat.

According him,  no community thrives without farmers,  and they  play a  central role in economic growth, food sufficiency, and sustainable development across Alimosho communities.

He highlighted empowerment of farmers as a strategic step toward prosperity, noting that agricultural productivity directly boosted local economic activities and improved livelihoods for residents.

The chairman assured the  AFAN members of   policies that would  enhance  productivity and welfare, pledging to sustain an enabling environment for agricultural growth.

Johnson referenced the success of the Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ Initiative, where farmers sold produce at 50 per cent subsidised rates, easing household burdens amid rising food costs.

He described the initiative as a practical solution to inflation, providing relief for families while strengthening farmer–community collaboration within Alimosho’s agricultural ecosystem.

Announcing the next edition in August, Johnson urged farmers, traders, and residents to participate actively, promising greater accessibility and economic development through collective effort.

The Acting Chairman of AFAN in  Lagos State, Mr Shekin Agbayewa, commended the chairman’s presence, praising the local government’s successful implementation of the Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ programme.

“Your leadership has shown that when government partners with farmers, communities prosper and households find relief.”

The National Secretary of the AFAN expressed gratitude for Johnson’s unwavering support, acknowledging his dedication to farmers and consistent leadership.

He  revealed plans to confer  the prestigious title of Patron of AFAN award on Johnson,  recognizing his outstanding contributions to farming communities in Alimosho. (NAN)
