The police on Friday, charged a 29-year-old man, Muhammad Abdulrahaman before a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, over alleged criminal breach of trust and mischief.
The defendant who resides at Idu Karma in Abuja, is standing trial on a two-count charge of bordering on the alleged offences.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Festus Ajayi told the court that, a complainant, one Mr Francis jatto, of Mogadishu Cant in Abuja, reported the matter at the Mabushi police station on March 17.
He alleged that sometime in November 2025, the complainant had entrusted his Honda power bike CB to the defendant for repairs.
According to him, the defendant had collected the sum of N245,000 as cost of repairs, and the sum of N265,000 for purchase of materials.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant damaged the bike’s engine worth N2.8 million, and also failed to carry out the repairs as earlier agreed.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 312 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of one million naira, with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must be a civil servant, must provide valid means of Identification from place of work, and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The court ordered the registrar to verify the surety’s address.
She adjourned the case until, July 24, for hearing. (www)
