Magistrate sentences mechanic to community service for stealing

A Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, has sentenced a 23-year-old mechanic, Abubakar Sadiq, to community service for stealing.

Sadiq, who resides in Chukuku village, Kuje Abuja, was convicted and sentenced for criminal conspiracy, mischief, and theft and ordered to sweep the Gwagwalada Area Council for seven days.

The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye, in his judgement ordered that the convict be supervised by the officers of the correction service to ensure that he completes the sentence.

He also warned the convict to desist from committing crime and to be of good behaviour.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that Abdullahi Maga, a member of a vigilante group in Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on Jan. 13.

Tanko said that in July 2024, a team of enforcement from Federal High Court Maitama, Abuja, impounded seven Dangote trucks loaded with cement and handed them over to Maga (the complainant) to guard for them.

He said the trucks were parked along the express close to the vigilante office, adding that on Jan. 12, the convict conspired with two minors and vandalised the trucks.

He said the convict, together with the minors, removed some irons and electric cables whose values are yet unknown from the trucks.

He added that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 326, and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
