Man, 21 in court over alleged $20,000 fraud

A 21-year-old man, Famous Bolade was on Wednesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over an alleged $20,000 fraud.

Bolade was charged with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

He, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi said the defendant committed the offences on April 5, 2025, at about 10.00 p.m, at Kuola area of Ibadan.

Folaranmi alleged that the defendant and others at large obtained the $20,000 from one Heinrich M and Wilhem M, under pretext of selling apartments to them.

He alleged that the defendant claimed to be a United States of America (USA) citizen after which he used the fraud proceeds to buy a Toyota Venza car worth N14 million.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N7 million and two sureties in like sum.

Osho, among other terms, held that one of the sureties must be a close relation to the defendant while the other one must be an owner of a landed property.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 2, 2027, for hearing. (NAN).
