Man, 31, docked for alleged laptop theft

A 31-year-old, Segun Taiwo, was on Friday docked in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a laptop.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge bothering on stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant and one other at large, committed the offence on May 18, at about 10:00 a.m at Basiri Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Bamikole said that the defendant and one other at large stole one laptop valued N80, 000, belonging to Abdulrahaman Rashidat.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

Meanwhile, the Counsel to the defendant, Mr Akinbobola Akingbade, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 20, for hearing. (NAN)
