A 33-year-old man, Olaniyi Yusuf, on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing bodily harm to a passerby.
Yusuf, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp Simon Njue, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 10, at about 5.00 a.m., at Adaola Almoruf Street, Oja Ale, Ejigbo, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant used a cutlass to machete one Mr Njoku Wisdom on the hand and cheek, causing him bodily harm.
According to him, the defendant’s actions caused a breach of public peace.
Njue said the offences contravened Sections 168(d) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 168(d) prescribes two years imprisonment for breach of peace, while Section 173 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault.
The Magistrate, Miss F.R. Ogunkoyode, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like terms.
She adjourned the case until June 6 for mention. (NAN)
