A 37-old-man, Chukwudi Okorie on Friday, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan , for allegedly defrauding his business partner of N4. 5 million.

Okorie, who resides at the Dugbe area, Ibadan , is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the offence between April and September 2025 at Dugbe.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N14.5 million from one Mr Olayinka Obisesan, with intent to defraud.

According to him, the defendant obtained the money under false pretence of assisting the complainant to buy farm produce like palm – oil, garlic, and bitter kola, for storage in a bid to resell .

Opaleye alleged that the defendant knew his representation to be false as he never purchased the farm produce.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi held that one of the sureties must be  owner of a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction, while the second surety must be a close relative of the defendant.

She, consequently,, adjourned the case until Oct. 8, for hearing. (NAN).
