Man, 39, arraigned for allegedly assaulting police officer on duty

The police, on Friday, dragged a 39-year-old man, Adeniyi Gbenga, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault.
He, however,  pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offence on May 21, at about 10:30 a.m. in Igede-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices willfully obstructed and assaulted a police corporal named Alade Olu, while discharging his lawful duty.
The offence contravenes the provision of section 187(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 26, for hearing.(NAN)
