A 45-year old man, Usman Umar, was on Tuesday, docked in a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly cheating his client.
Umar of Phase three, Yola Street, Trademore, Lugbe Abuja, was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
Earlier the Prosecuting Counsel, Emmanuel Inegbenoise told the court that the complainant, Amina Umar, reported the matter at the Police command, Abuja, sometime in 2022.
Inegbenoise told the court that the complainant claimed that sometimes in 2022, she entrusted the defendant with three Toyota Camry cars and one unregistered Honda accord saloon car for hiring purposes.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant converted the said cars valued yet unknown to his personal used without the consent of the complainant.
He said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of his actions.
”The defendant allegedly failed to use the vehicles for the purpose for which they were delivered to him, and also refused to return them to the nominal complainant.
”The offences, contravene section 312 and 322 of the penal code,” the prosecutor said.
The Magistrate Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
Inyang ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant of any Grade level and the second surety must be a business owner.
He also ordered that the sureties must submit a reliable means of identification to the court Registrar and live within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate adjourned the case until July 3, for hearing.(NAN)
