Man, 50, docked over alleged N1.8m land fraud

A 50-year-old, Muideen Ganiyu, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged N1.8 million land fraud.

Ganiyu, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in June 2025 at Apete area of Ibadan.

Adegbenro alleged that the defendant collected the N1.8 million from the complainant, Mr Rasaq Alabi, for three plots of land, but failed to provide the land.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

“All efforts made by the complainant to get the defendant to give him the land or his money proved abortive,”the prosecutor said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 14 for mention.(NAN).
