A 54-year-old man, Ganiyu Ayeni, on Thursday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for obtaining money on false pretence.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and conversion.
The prosecutor, SP Simon Uche told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 12, 2025 at Ishagira in Ojo.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N300,000 from the complainant, Mr Shehu Tijani, on the pretence of selling a half plot of land to him.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant never secured the land for the complainant, but converted the money to his personal use.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Lateef Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Layeni adjourned the case until July 29, for mention. (NAN).
