Man bags 5 years imprisonment for stealing

Badagry (Lagos State), March 2, 2026 (NAN) A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday, sentenced a 34-year-old man, Joshua Michael, to a term of five years at the correctional center, over stealing and breach of peace.

The convict was said to have stolen gate poles and antenna poles.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, sentenced him after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge bordering on the offence.

Layeni sentenced the convict to a term of five years at the correctional service without option of fine.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, had told the court that  the convict committed the offences on Feb. 20, at about 3 p.m. at Golden Estate, Mosafejo, Badagry.

He said that the defendant broke the gate and also stole the poles and some other antenna poles, which values are yet unknown.

He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to breach peace by causing disturbances within the scene.

The prosecutor said that he was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015. (NAN)
