Man, 47, arraigned over alleged N2.3m fraud

Badagry (Lagos State) March 2, 2026 (NAN) The Police on Monday, charged a 47-year-old man, Jeleel Akindiya before Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged N2.3 million fraud.

The defendant whose address is unknown is standing trial on charges bordering on fraud and conversion.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP. Edet Ekpo, told the Court that the defendant committed the offences on April 6, 2025, at about 5.00.p.m at Morogbo, opposite Nestle compound, in Agbara.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N2.36 million from one Mr Obafemi Gbeleyi, a complainant, under the pretense of refunding it subsequently.

He alleged that the defendant never returned the money but allegedly converted same to his own without the consent of the owner.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum  of one million naira, with two sureties each in the like sum.

The court held that one of the sureties must be a community leader.

He adjourned the case until April 8, for mention. (NAN)
