A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Samuel Tisan, to 14 months imprisonment for stealing three inverter batteries valued at N2.4m.
Tisan, a resident of Malali Kaduna, was charged with two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, however, did not give Tisan an option of fine.
He said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others and also warned the convict to be of good behavior.
The convict had pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 4 at Kano Road along Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna.
Leo said that the convict was arrested after he was caught in possession of three inverter batteries valued at N2.4m belonging to A & G Nig. Trading Company.
According to the prosecutor, the convict and two others at large, broke into the company, tied the security guard and stole the said batteries.
He said the convict was caught by a group of vigilante men while coming out of the company with the stolen properties while the two others escaped.
Leo said the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.(NAN).
