A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year old man, Musa Dogara to 16 months imprisonment for burglary and theft of phone accessories valued N1.6million.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not give Dogara an option of fine.
Emmanuel said that the defendant was found guilty of a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
The magistrate sentenced Dogara to eight months imprisonment on each of the counts.
He stated that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who intended to indulge criminal acts.
Dogara who resides at Magajin Gari Kaduna, committed the offences on May 9 at Kawo Kaduna.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Dogara burgled the shop of the complainant, Abubakar Sani, and stole phone accessories worth N1.6m.
Leo said that the defendant was apprehended by security guards while attempting to leave the shop.
He said that the offences contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.(NAN)
