Abeokuta, Feb.19, 2026 (NAN) An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, on Thursday, sentenced a 40-year-old man, Kayode Onabanjo, to 12 months’ imprisonment for stealing over N1.58 million belonging to his employer.
Onabanjo, with no fixed address, was convicted on a one-count charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr I.O Ogunfemi, held that all evidence presented by the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty as charged.
He, however, convicted Onabanjo to 12 months imprisonment without an option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Adewusi Ojo, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Oct. 10, 2024, at No. 38, Opeoluwa Road, Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta.
Ojo said that the defendant, who had been working with Hgotet Nigeria Ltd. as a sales representative since 2023, absconded with the sum of N1, 589,852, property of the company.
The prosecutor said that all efforts made by the company to reach the defendant after the incident proved abortive.
He said that the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Law of Ogun of Nigeria, 2006.(NAN)
