Mechanic docked for allegedly stealing customer’s motorcycle

A motorcycle mechanic, Johrusone Ihuma, on Friday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, charged with absconding with a customer’s Quilink motorcycle.

Ihuma, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge of criminal breach of trust levelled against him.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Festus Ajayi told the court that the complainant, Chiamaka Eze, reported the matter at the Utako police station on May 1.

Ajayi said that the complainant entrusted the defendant with one Quilink motorcycle to repair.

He further alleged that after the defendant collected the motorcycle he ran away with it and switched off all his cellphones.

The  offences, the prosecutor said, contravened sections, 79, 346 and 334 of the Penal Code.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Amos Terna, applied for the bail of the defendant citing Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal justice Act (ACJA), which provides that bail is at the discretion of the court.

The Magistrate, Mr Ekpeyong Inyang, granted the defendant N1 million bail with one reliable surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

Inyang ordered that the surety must be a civil servant and produce a letter of introduction and staff Identity card of the his or her organization

The magistrate also directed that the surety’s addresses be verified by the court’s registrar and adjourned the matter until June 3 for hearing. (NAN)
