Jos, Feb. 18, 2026 (NAN) A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced an 18-year-old miner, Mubarak Shaibu , to one year imprisonment for stealing a cellphone.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine and ordered him to pay N10,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur , told the court that the complainant, Mr Aliyu Abubakar reported the case on Jan.9 at the “C” Division Police Station.
Thiawur said the convict begged to use the complainant’s phone to make a call and absconded with the itel phone.
He said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
