An NGO, The Osun Mastermind, has urged Osun Government to ensure proper monitoring of the ongoing road projects across the state to ensure quality jobs and timely delivery.
Executive Director of the NGO, Prof. Wasiu Alli-Oyedokun, stated this during its May edition of State of the State of address, on Monday in Osogbo.
According to Alli-Oyedokun, the structural integrity of the ongoing projects across the state called for concern, especially with the level of expertise of the firms that won the contracts.
He stressed the need for government to ensure quality delivery of the projects to avoid waste of the state’s scarce resources and also prevent any risk to the lives of the residents on the long run.
“We must also bring to government’s notice the slow pace of work on Lameco flyover.
“The contractor, Kimzee Ltd., is moving at a snail speed despite the huge inconvenience the road diversion is causing road users.
“The contractor must be immediately directed to introduce traffic wardens to Lameco roundabout to end the confusion that occurs every hour of the day due to the road diversion,” he said.
Alli-Oyedokun said that the state government should also ensure that the contractors did not only deliver quality but also conformed to global engineering standards of quality and safety.
“We understand that government may have sincere intentions on these projects but good intentions must also be safeguarded with close monitoring to prevent sharp practices that may put lives and resources at risk,” he said. (NAN)
