ABIDJAN – Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, has etched its name in history by becoming the first team, aside from the host nation, to arrive in Cote d’Ivoire for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team’s arrival at Felix Houphouet Boigny Airport in Abidjan on Sunday was met with a warm reception and marked a significant milestone in the lead-up to the continental football spectacle.
The official Twitter handle of the Moroccan team shared the news, stating, “Our #AtlasLions arrived safely to San Pedro.”
Having reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, the Atlas Lions landed in Abidjan at 2:00 PM local time. The welcoming ceremony, organized by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of AFCON, featured vibrant cultural displays and unfolded under stringent security measures to ensure a seamless arrival for Coach Walid Regragui’s team.
The early arrival of Morocco sets an optimistic tone for the upcoming AFCON tournament, and football enthusiasts eagerly await the participation of other nations in the prestigious event.
