
Several arrests has been made by operatives of the Edo State command of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Benin City,the Edo state capital.
Some dealers and consumers of marijuana, popularly called Indian Hemp had a run for their money as the command carried out a systemic raid on their hideouts.
The well coordinated operation which our correspondent learnt started in the early hours of Wednesday saw several suspects being arrested.
The arrest which came to residents within the affected areas as shocking however commended the Command for rising up to its responsibility in view of the ongoing reports of cult clash which has left no fewer than 25 dead.
Some residents who spoke with our reporter said they were taking unawares when the men swooped on the areas to make arrest.
A resident in Owina,Dickson who described the arrest as similar to a Hollywood movie said: “This morning as I was going to the bus stop by Powerline, we suddenly saw well armed personnel dressed in maroon colours carrying guns,we were shocked because we have never seen this kind of operations beforem
“As they began to search and burst the joints, I then observed that they were NDLEA. They made several arrest,seized bags of Indian hemp. I think the arrest is timely because of the crisis in town,maybe it will help reduce crime.
Some popular joints burst by NDLEA include Ugbiyoko,Upper Ekenwan Road by Powerline,Ekenwan Park, popular Dekin spot off Owina among others.
The command’s spokes man could not be reached for comment as he was said to be out on the field.
A source however disclosed that the operations is a regular routine carried out by the command across the state.
