The Federal Government has admitted that it is currently in search of more Covid-19 Vaccines to acquire and administer on her citizens, as it’s currently distributing the 4million available doses to Eligible citizens.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire who made this known at a Presidential Press Briefing today in Abuja, said due to global shortage in production of vaccines, the much envisaged supply of vaccine to Nigeria may not come in soon, but probably come in by July or August.
He noted that the Serum Institute of India (SII), the main supplier of the COVAX facility, says it may not resume export of vaccine doses till the end of 2021, adding that Nigeria is in talks with COVAX, and other producing or donor countries to make vaccines available to the country.
Giving update on the issues of Resident Doctor’s and other health workers strike threats, he said the government have been in talks with the various health associations and they have been cooperative so far, adding that just few little rough edges would be ironed out but urged them not to Embark on Strike at this fragile period.
The Executive Secretary National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaibu reiterated that so far over 1.9million Eligible Nigerians have taken 1st dose and close to 5000 Nigerians received 2nd dose, saying that strategy on Vaccine Administration has to be changed due to unavailability of next set, noting that their will be equity and accountability of the vaccines administration.
