The Nigeria Police has cautioned against the dissemination of alleged/fake election results on social media and other news platforms, contrary to the policy and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement on Sunday, the police noted that this trend is a calculated attempt to heat up the polity and possibly create post-election chaos. The police regarded this act as unpatriotic, a disservice, and a form of disinformation.

The statement further warned those spreading these alleged/fake election results to desist from such mischievous acts and wait patiently for INEC’s official results, which are authentic and tenable.

The NPF urged Nigerians to remain calm and go about their lawful engagements. The statement also requested those going to the polls today to be orderly and law-abiding as the police have re-enforced security strategies for the smooth conclusion of the 2023 General Elections.

In conclusion, the police advised the public to only rely on INEC’s official results and not be swayed by alleged/fake election results on social media or any other news platform.
