The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC), says it has conducted a two-day psychological assessment and evaluation exercise for 424 arms-handling personnel in Jigawa.
This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Corps, CSC Adamu Shehu, on Thursday in Dutse.
Shehu said the exercise conducted between Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, was in line with the directive of the Commandant-General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar, to psychologically assess and evaluate all arms-bearing personnel of the Corps.
He said that the exercise organized by the Forensic and Behavioral Unit of the Corps was conducted in batches in order not to forestall other official engagements.
The spokesperson added that the exercise was facilitated by resource persons from the NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja.
The statement quoted the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Mustapha Talba, as saying that the gesture aimed at assessing the mental alertness, cognitive and emotional functions as well as psychological readiness of arms-bearing personnel of the Corps.
Talba added that it was also designed to ascertain personnel ability and capability to bear arms, to prevent misuse and equally boost public confidence.
“In other words, the assessment is aimed at ensuring that security operatives are neither threats to themselves nor the general public.
“This is in line with the Commandant-General’s vision to reposition and transform the Corps to international standard.”  (NAN)
