NSCDC deploys 1,200 personnel for Easter celebration in Edo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, says it has deployed 1,200 personnel across the state to ensure residents enjoy a peaceful Easter celebration.

The State Commandant, Mr. Gbenga Agun, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Efosa Ogbebor, on Tuesday in Benin.

Agun assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place, with the corps’ special forces joining hands with regular officers to ensure a hitch-free celebration.

He said the armed squad, anti-vandal monitoring unit, the special female squad, intelligence, agro-rangers, counter-terrorism, and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) are on standby.

“Our job is to protect lives and property, so we must look out for criminals, hoodlums, and mischief makers seeking to compromise the peace of the state and deal decisively with them.

“Our personnel will provide adequate security in places of worship, motor parks, recreational centres, and other places to prevent any form of threat to lives and property,” Agun said.

The commandant congratulated Christians in the state on the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, charging them to pray for the peace and progress of the state and that of Nigeria.

He, however, warned holidaymakers to celebrate in moderation and be law-abiding in their activities.

He urged them to assist security agencies by giving timely and credible information to nip crime in the bud. (NAN)
