The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) said that corps members deployed to Borno were being posted to secured areas to ensure their safety.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Nura Umar said this during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch “C” Stream II Orientation Course on Tuesday in Katsina.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that corps members deployed to Borno have been camping in Katsina due to insecurity in the state.

According to him, the NYSC prioritises the safety of corps members to enable them feel comfortable and discharge their national duties.

He said that corps members should remain calm as the security situation in the state had improved, and advised them to be vigilant.

“The youth corps members would not be posted to areas with security challenges,” he said.

Umar noted that the scheme had sensitised corps members on security consciousness to guide them throughout their service period.

“So, they are equipped with all the necessary information, and they have been seriously told how to take care of their personal safety.

“We are all proud of Nigeria, and we are the ones to develop the country to the level we want. Therefore, the corps members should respect the culture and religion of their host communities.

“They should also collaborate with the communities to see how they can assist them through their Community Development Service (CDS),” he said.

The Coordinator commended the Borno and Katsina State Governments for providing adequate security to ensure the safety of corps members during and after orientation exercise.

He urged employers of corps members to support them in realising their potentials and ensure their welfare.

He enjoined the corps members to utilise the skills acquired during the three-weeks orientation exercise to enable them to become sekf-reliant.

The coordinator, however, presented a letter of commendation to the camp Director, Alhaji Isa Dangabari for his outstanding performance during the exercise. (NAN)
