Ojapinwa takes over as CP special fraud unit, Lagos

Lagos, Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) Mr Kayode Ojapinwa on Monday assumed duty as the 33rd Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos, following the retirement of CP Rose Dung.

The Unit’s spokesperson, DSP Ovie Ewhubare, announced this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

The statement said that the new commissioner was received on arrival by the unit’s management team and officers, alongside key stakeholders.

It noted that CP Ojapinwa addressed officers and personnel of the Unit,  charging them to uphold high standards of professionalism, discipline and intelligence-led policing in the discharge of their duties.

He, the statement noted, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, for the opportunity to serve, assuring of his commitment to diligence, fairness and accountability.

The commissioner called on members of the public and stakeholders to sustain collaboration with the police in the fight against crime, it said.

The statement quoted CP Ojapinwa as assuring that fraud-related offences would be confronted decisively and handled with strict professionalism under his leadership.

It said that CP Ojapinwa hailed from Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

The statement added that Ojapinwa was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

“A seasoned police officer with decades of experience, CP Ojapinwa has undergone several professional and investigative trainings, including the Advanced Detective Course and CPTU, among others.

“His career spans investigation, operations and administrative duties across various formations nationwide.

“He has served in several strategic capacities, including Unit Commander, Mopol 18 Squadron, Owerri; Divisional Police Officer in Mushin, Alakara Itire and Trade Fair Divisions under the Lagos State Police Command,” it stated.

The statement added that Ojapinwa had also served as the Area Commander, Gboko, Benue State, and Commander, 58 Squadron Police Mobile Force, Lafia.

It said that the new commissioner of police had also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Counter-Terrorism Unit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Police Command, Abuja.

The statement said further that, until his current posting, Ojapinwa was the Commissioner of Police, Special Protection Unit at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja. (NAN)
