The Edo South senatorial elections which was postponed till April 11 in some local governments has been conducted, with Honourable Matthew Urhoghide of the Peoples’ Democratic Party defeating Hon Sampson Osagie in the overall results.
Urhoghide emerged winner after polling 139,784 overall votes as against 117,759 garnered by the APC candidate.
It will be recalled that the elections was postponed in Orhionmwon Local Government on March 28 by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) due to missing result sheets. The postponement also affected some units in Oredo, Uhumnwode, Ovia North East and Ovia South West LGS of the state.
The PDP had initially been in the lead over APC in the LGS where results were declared, which included six of the seven local governments that made up Edo South senatorial distict. With yesterday’s poll, the APC scored 18906 while PDP scored 15378 votes.
The PDP had accused INEC of conniving with the state leadership of APC to source for votes for their candidate over the decision to extend the election to some units where election were previously conducted.
Meanwhile, in the State House of Assembly electionsn, the PDP clinched just three seats while the All Progressives Congress(APC) captured 21 seats of the 24 seats available in the state. Edo is one of the states where governorship elections were not held in the country.
