Ibadan, Feb. 26, 2026 (NAN) The police on Thursday arraigned a 25-year-old apprentice, Mubarak Salawu, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing N39 million from his employer.

Salawu, whose address was not disclosed, was charged with one count of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Tunji Olaniyi, told the court that between January 2023 and January 2025, at the Academy and Iwo Road areas of Ibadan, the defendant sold building materials valued at N39 million belonging to his employer, Mr Saheed Adebayo.

He said the defendant failed to remit the proceeds into the company’s account and instead converted the money to his personal use.

Olaniyi alleged that the defendant committed the offence with the intent to permanently deprive the shop owner of the proceeds.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390 (6) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Defence counsel, Mr O. M. Inakoju, applied for bail for the defendant on the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Moshood Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative who had paid taxes to the state government for the past three years.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until April 1 for hearing. (NAN)
