Presidential Steering Committee identifies violators of COVID-19 Travel Advisory, threaten sanctions

The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 has identified passengers arriving in Nigeria from Brazil, India, and Turkey, who have violated the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Health Regulations Protection, 2021 guidelines.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 Mr Boss Mustapha noted that these precautionary measures are a necessary step to mitigate the risk of importation of Covid variants of concern and break the chain of transmission to the population.

The statement further notes that passengers who arrived in Nigeria between May 8 and 15, 2021, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and whose names and passport numbers displayed, have been declared Persons of Interest (POI) on account of posing a considerable danger to overall public health.

The PSC notes that it shall sanction the violators among other means, by disabling their travel passports for a period not less than one year; and Cancelation of visas/ permits of foreigners who have abused the country’s hospitality.
