Bauchi, Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JNAPWD) in Bauchi State, has urged the Federal Government to inaugurate the North-East Braille Library, to enhance delivery of quality education in the region.

Its Chairman, Mr Abubakar Abdullahi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Bauchi.

He said the call was imperative to put the library into effective use which has been dormant in the last 10 years.

Abdullahi said the library project was completed in the last 10 years, to support educational and learning activities of blind persons in the North-East.

He said the facility was equipped with modern learning tools, including braille e-learning and reading equipment, braille embossers, computers and books.

“For the past 10 years, these items are idle because the library has not been inaugurated, and beneficiaries have no access to it.

“We appeal to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, to inaugurate the library to enable our members to access the facilities,” he said.

Abdullahi noted that many PWDs in Bauchi state were actively pursuing education at various levels and required specialized learning support materials.

“We have students in special education primary and secondary schools as well as over 50 students in higher institutions who will benefit greatly from this facility.” (NAN)
