Receptionist in court for allegedly stealing employer’s N1m

A 21-year-old receptionist, Peace Jonathan, was on Monday docked in  a Magistrates’ Court  in Life Camp in Abuja for allegedly stealing her employer’s N1 million.
The Police charged Jonathan, who lives in  Mararaba, Nasarawa state, with theft.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr James Kingsley , General manager attached to Pepper Grill and Apartment Life Camp, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police station on June 19.
Nwachukwu said that the management of the company, discovered that under the gym section, the sum of N 1 million was missing from its account.
The Prosecutor told the court that ten registered gym cards under the custody of the defendant were also missing, each worth  N10,000.
She said that the defendant converted the said money for her personal use.
The prosecution said during police investigation it was discovered that the defendant used her personal account, which showed the transfer of the money from the company’s account.
According to her, the offence contravenes the provision of section 289 of the penal code.
The Magistrate, Ramlatu Yusuf, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.
Yusuf ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and provide a reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the case until July 28 for hearing.(NAN)
