
The House of Representatives has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for the execution of bridge and road projects in Bauchi State.
The Chairman, House Committee on NEDC, Mr Usman Zanna, stated this on Thursday during a project inspection tour at Bara community in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.
He said the road project would link Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba as well as Chad and Cameroon Republics.
According to him, the road project will encourage social and economic development of the region.
“The media has been carrying reports that the NEDC is working and we have to commend the management team for this wonderful work because these are critical infrastructure which the North-East wants.
“I would like to say Weldon to the managing director, we hope that this kind of project will also continue in the other parts of the state. Thank you very much for a job well done,” he said.
The committed also expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the project in spite of the rainy season.
Also speaking, Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, NEDC, said the intervention was to reduce road carnage and lost of property due to poor state of the road.
Alkali said the commission approached the Federal Ministry of Works to intervene in some portions of the road, adding that the road project was awarded eight years ago.
“We are agencies of the federal government and this is a federal road, we are doing this as a commission to ease the pain of our people,” he said. (NAN)
