Some community stakeholders in the Iganmu-Badia area of Apapa on the Lagos Mainland on Tuesday lauded the Lagos State Government (LASG) for commencing the reconstruction of Fadaini-Obale Road.
The community stakeholders expressed their happiness and support for the government at a stakeholders meeting held at the Alausa Secretariat, the seat of power.
The meeting was to intimate the people on the project.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the road reconstruction, now at the site clearance stage, was awarded on May 27 2021 to Messrs Strabic Construction Ltd., and is billed to be completed within 18 months.
NAN reports that the road, which has been in a poor state for years with its attendant hardship on the people, is 1,350 metres long and 7.5 metres wide.
Speaking at the event, the Bale of Badia Sadiaku Oseni-Ajayi in whose domain the road is, said that with the commencement of reconstruction, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has remembered the community.
The elated traditional ruler said when the road is completed, life in the area would be enhanced.
“This administration is a promise keeper, it is happening in our area today and we are thankful to the state government for this.
“We are going to give it the support it deserves to ensure the reconstruction is completed in record time, the security of the infrastructure and its field workers is guaranteed,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr. Olatunbosun Makojuola, a youth leader in the community, said that it was a good thing that the state was carrying the community along in the project execution, to avoid misinformation.
According to him, youths will be called to order concerning the project.
“It is our project and whatever we can do to protect it and bring it to completion is what we are going to do.
“We appreciate the state for this project which we have being looking forward to for years, as it will bring a sense of belonging to the people,” he said.
Mr. Obale Shakirulah-Muhammed, another community leader in the area, noted that the reconstruction of the road was one of the campaign promises made to the people by the government.
Shakirulah-Muhammed, who called for another stakeholders meeting with people, said it would be used to further educate the people on what was expected of them.
NAN reports that the road, a single carriageway, connects Sari-Iganmu to Moshood Abiola Road in Apapa and is among the critical infrastructure expected to uplift the economic status of the area when completed. (NAN)
