Rivers varsity suspends student over theft from female hostel
The management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said one of its students, Johnson Leyira, had been suspended following his arrest for allegedly destroying the school property and stealing.
This came barely 24-hours after another student, Chimara Prince, of the Department of Guidance and Counselling was detained with a sack of Indian hemp on the campus and suspended.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, disclosed the latest occurrence involving Leyira from the Department of Political Science on his official Facebook page.
Ndimele said Leyira is the Director of Socials of the National Union of Rivers State Students in the institution, adding that the school security men handed him over to the police for further examination.
The VC said that the student was caught after he allegedly stole unnamed items from a female hostel and lauded other students for apprehending him and preventing him from being attacked by a mob.
