S. Korean Security Council holds meeting over N. Korea’s missile launches

South Korea’s National Security Agency has said that it held a meeting on Monday over North Korea’s launch of medium-range ballistic missiles, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing the presidential office.

Earlier, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea had launched several short-range ballistic missiles from the Chagang province toward the Sea of Japan (known as the East Sea).

The missiles reportedly travelled approximately 250 kilometres (155 miles) before falling into the sea.

The South Korean military has reportedly stepped up North Korea’s “surveillance and monitoring’’ in anticipation of possible additional launches and maintains full combat readiness.

“The government will closely monitor North Korea’s movements and maintain firm readiness to respond to any provocations,’’ a presidential spokesperson was quoted as saying.

This marked the second missile launch by North Korea in 2025, following the launch of a medium-range hypersonic missile on Jan. 6, the report said. (RIA/NAN)
