Save Ikere-Ekiti from incessant attacks, Lawmaker urges govt.

The lawmaker representing Ikere-Ekiti Constituency II in the Ekiti House of Assembly, Mr. Tunde Idowu, has called on the state government to rescue his community from incessant attacks by herders and cattle rustlers.
Idowu made the call on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti during a chart with newsmen on the incidents that occurred in the town recently between the herders and cattle rustlers on the one hand and the residents on the other.
While condemning the incessant attacks on the farmlands of the people of Ikere-Ekiti, he called on Gov. Biodun Oyebanji and other stakeholders to rise up to the occasion and rescue the community from those he described as unscrupulous men.
“I was deeply touched and emotionally disorganised by the ugly activities of the herders and cattle rustlers in my constituency.
“It has been persistent and is now becoming unbearable for us in the last two weeks. The Fulani herders have carried out a series of terrible destructions on our farmlands.
All the banana, cassava, yam plantations, and cocoa farms were burned,” he said.
The lawmaker, however, commended the unwavering efforts of the state government and the swift action of the two local government chairmen in Ikere Local Government to checkmate the menace of the herders and cattle rustlers in the area.
He urged security agencies to redouble their efforts while calling on the residents to be law-abiding and ensuring that the government was on top of the situation. (NAN)
