Following series of attacks and excuses by the Presidency to stem cases of insecurity across the country, Senators from opposition parties have issued a six-week ultimatum to  President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country or be prepared to go.

This is coming after the recent attacks on Kuje Prison, on the outskirts of the capital city, and also the recent attack on a patrol team of the Brigade of Guards, Nigerian Army, with the duty to guard the President, and the order for the closure of the Federal Government College, Abuja, were the two high-profile incidents that raised security concerns since last few days.

Minority Leader of the Senate, Philip Aduda, conveyed the position of the lawmakers’ threat to commence the impeachment proceedings against the President should he fail to address the insecurity within the period given by them.

Aduda, a three-time Senator representing the FCT on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, made the position of the lawmakers known on Wednesday while briefing reporters at the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
