The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, says the leaking roof of the White House in the National Assembly during a heavy downpour yesterday is a clear vindication on the part of the parliament over the general decay of the Assembly complex.

The Senate’s deputy Chief whip, Abdullahi Sabi raised a point of order querying some media reports that followed the incident and misconceptions in the public space which has made it necessary to set the records straight.

In his remarks, the Senate President clarified that the renovation of the National Assembly complex is long overdue after it was built in 1999, adding that the controversial N37 Billion for the renovation of the complex was approved for the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA), mandated by President Muhammadu Buhari to carry out the renovation.

The Senate President also called on media enthusiasts to apply professionalism in the dissemination of information to the general public.
