President Buhari Approves Second Peer Review Country Self-assessment

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the Second Peer Review Country Self-assessment Report can be conducted on Nigeria.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adeshina made this known while briefing State House Correspondent at the End of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, presided by President Buhari.

Reacting to questions on ECOWAS Court ruling to the effect that the Federal Government cannot arrest or prosecute Twitter users following the suspension of the activities of the microblogging site in Nigeria, Mr Femi disclosed that the Attorney General of the Federation is studying the ruling issued by the ECOWAS court and would advise the Government on the next step to take.

The Presidential media aide also distanced the Presidency from the ongoing attempts at the National Assembly to amend the Nigerian Press Council (NPC) Act and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Act, in a way media stakeholders have condemned as an attempt to muzzle the press, noting that it’s the Minister of Information that can address it.
