Senate President Raises Alarm Over Insecurity Threat in Federal Capital Territory

ABUJA  – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), highlighting the infiltration of bandits into areas such as Kubwa and Bwari.

Speaking before the Senate adjourned its briefing with heads of security agencies to next week, Akpabio underscored the urgent need for action to address the growing threat posed by banditry in the nation’s capital.

“The situation is worrisome in Agatu, Taraba, Oyo, Plateau, Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi. We also heard about the infiltration (of bandits) into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in places like Kubwa and Bwari,” stated Akpabio.

He emphasized reports of bandit cells congregating in the FCT, prompting the Senate to convene security agencies for a briefing on efforts to combat the menace.

Recent incidents, including bandit attacks on residents of Bwari and Kubwa resulting in kidnappings and fatalities, have heightened concerns over the security of the FCT.

In response, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to make Abuja uninhabitable for criminals, pledging ongoing efforts to root out criminal elements from the capital.

The Senate’s attention to the insecurity in the FCT reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for decisive action to safeguard the capital and its residents.
