Shell Wins Best Exhibitor Award at 2024 SPE Nigeria Conference, Secures Multiple Trophies

LAGOS – Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCiN) claimed the prestigious Best Exhibitor award at the 2024 Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) held in Lagos from August 5 to 7. In addition to the top honor, Shell employees secured seven individual trophies, further solidifying the company’s leadership in the oil and gas industry.

The Shell exhibition featured a blend of informative posters, educational sessions for engineering students, and free medical services, where hundreds of conference participants received check-ups and medication.

SPE International President Terry Palisch and Nigeria Council Chairman Salahudeen Tahir, who jointly presented the award, praised Shell as a “leading light in the oil and gas industry,” noting its significant support to indigenous companies. The award was accepted by Oladipo Ashafa, Asset Development and Subsurface Manager for the Shell Petroleum Development Company, on behalf of SCiN.

Ashafa described the award as “a reward for professional and technical excellence.” He added, “As an industry leader, we recognize the enormous responsibility this brings, and we continue to rethink and reshape our strategies to deliver optimal value to Nigeria, our partners, and the local service industry.”

In the individual categories, several Shell employees were honored for their contributions:
– Ngozi Okonkwo won the Bernard Oboarekpe Drilling & Completions Award and Best New Member Recruiter.
– Olalekan Balogun received the Prof. Michael Onyekonwu Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award.
– Femi Obakhena earned the Prof. Chi Ikoku Production and Operations Award.
– Oladipo Ashafa was awarded the 2024 Industry Young Executive Award and the Chairman’s Medallion.
– Magdalene Umoh, the 2024 Conference Chairman, also received the Chairman’s Medallion.

SNEPCo Managing Director Elohor Aiboni congratulated the Shell team on their successful participation and expressed gratitude to SPE for “providing a platform for companies to showcase their contributions to the industry and for professionals to exchange ideas.”

This recognition adds to Shell’s accolades in 2024, having previously won Best Exhibitor at the 7th Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja and the International Oil Company of the Year Award at the 8th Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) in Lagos, organized by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN).
