The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Thursday, began the training of 690 youth and women in Sokoto, under its vocational and skill acquisition programme.
The State Coordinator, Mrs Eunice Danmallam, made the disclosure at the inauguration of the training exercise in Sokoto.
Danmallam disclosed that the youth would undergo a 12-week training exercise under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS), while 50 others under the School on Wheel scheme (SOW).
Danmallam explained that the trainees were encouraged to select trade of their choice, noting that the directorate offered training in over 80 specialized areas.
She said that the directorate would pay N2, 000 monthly stipends to each of the trainees, as transportation allowances to encourage punctuality.
The coordinator added that the trainees were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state, as part of the Federal Government’s empowerment and entrepreneurial development drive.
Danmallam said that: “The training is designed to expose the youth to trades and acquire skills, to enable them to become self-reliant, employers of labour and contribute to the social and economic development of the society”.
