LONDON – Leaders and elders of the Southern Kaduna community expressed jubilation following the inauguration of Mrs. Abigail Marshall Katung, wife of the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, as the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds City, United Kingdom.

In a statement released by the Southern Kaduna Leadership Council (SKLC), Mrs. Katung’s ascension to the mayoral role was hailed as a testament to her unwavering dedication, diligence, and service to humanity.

Elder Ishaya Dary Akau, Chairman of the Council, lauded Mrs. Katung’s historic election as the first person of African descent to hold the position, citing it as a reflection of the region’s enduring ethos of hard work, resilience, and commitment to communal welfare.

While extending congratulations, Elder Akau urged Mrs. Katung to uphold the trust vested in her by the Nigerian populace and prayed for divine guidance, fortitude, and foresight in her new capacity.

Similarly, HRH Luka Kogi Yabuwat, Agwam Kajju II, conveyed heartfelt felicitations to Mrs. Katung, emphasizing her significant achievement and expressing optimism for positive transformation under her leadership.

Mrs. Abigail Marshall Katung, who assumed office in January 2024 under the Labour and Co-operative Party, succeeded AI Garthwaite as the Lord Mayor of Leeds.
